My thoughts are that this whole mess is a result of the "hipster" offshoot of messengers and single speeds. I have been watching pista gruppos and components for a while now, most seriously since actually purchasing a track frame. The prices are rising as fast as my blood pressure. The misrepresentation (much of it) comes from ignorance.
