Subject: [CR]James Cycle Co. vintage tandem questions

My Dad has a vintage tandem that he's had for about 40 years. I'm wondering if any of the UK members can tell me anything about it.

It is repainted and re-built, but the headbage is rather nice. The model is "Super Special Tandem" and the serial number is D29078. Could it be as old as April 1929? My Dad thinks it's more like 1939 or so from what the dealer in England told him when he bought it (40 years ago!). It originally had a three-speed 1/8" block with a Cyclo gear, and has 26" EA3 wheels if I recall correctly. It weighs a sprightly 65 pounds, fully equipped. Dunlop rims, drum brakes, with a foot pedal for the rear brake, actuated by the stoker. The rear is convertible mens/ ladies. I have some pics. if anyone can help ID this tandem. I believe the James Co. made motorcycles at one point, and that makes sense, as this bike is rather stout!
