I have an Oscar Egg frame which by next spring should be up and running as a complete bicycle with an 'Osgear' rear derailleur. There are a few complete bikes around though I have only tracked down one other in England. I would be delighted to hear from anyone who owns one. I have a few photos of complete and original bikes gleaned from here and there. The ones made in the thirties had what one thinks of as Osgear dropouts but as the company either bought the Nivex hub design or were licenced to make them, by 1939 they were built with Nivex hubs and rear dropouts. Ken Denny believes that they were imported into England by Hicking of Hayes and it has been suggested to me that Hickings may have imported incomplete bikes and finished them off with 27" Dunlop rims. Brakes by 1939 and post war were LAM Super Dural, but earlier catalogues list brakes, saddles and other parts as being 'Oscar Egg'. No doubt they were made by well known companies but branded with the Oscar Egg name. The Oscar Egg team prewar included Max Bulla who gave his name to one of the models. As a name, the company certainly survived into bike boom years as I have seen one on French eBay which had a seventies look about it. The striking fork Super Champion derailleur was superceded by a more conventional one but they did not keep up with progress. Precisely how and when they met their end I would love to know Stuart Tallack in West Sussex
