............Witcombs shop in Tanners Hill Deptford London SE8 is I'm glad to say still a going concern as it is now in the capable hands of Barry Witcomb since Ernie retired recently, two weeks ago Barry even had his name painted on the shop frontage so it is now known as "Barry Witcomb's" good luck to him as he is a real nice chap who is still happy to talk about the golden years of British cycling,
Another shop that is well worth a visit is Ciclos Uno in Hainault Essex
(E.London outskirts) run by former top cyclist Trevor Maddern.......I was told
about the shop a few years ago and on my first visit was delighted to see a 1957
Hetchins Track Curly and a Jack Taylor touring frame of a similar age
hanging amongst more recent offerings in the window, inside was a large showcase
with all manner of brakes/hubs/pedals from the 40's/50's that I believe was
Trevor's personal collection and not for sale although the aforementioned
frames and a pair of "woodies" hanging up were up for sale........certainly well
worth a visit if you're in the area
