Gee, all you guys were so lucky to get multi speed bikes. I started racing in 1947 and had to make do with a '39 Durkopp track bike. But then all our racing was done on fixed gears, road and track. It was in 1951 that I got my Urago, TDF derailleur, 8sp, Reynolds 531 road bike. That one got smashed in 1954 when I was hit by a semi trailer truck the day before Somerville. Didn't get to ride that classic with 4th and 5th fractured lumbar vertebra among other inconveniences. My kid's tool around bike was a camel back 28" wheel coaster brake CCM when I was 13/14. Used the old Durkopps in racing until mid '50's, were replaced by Urago, Patria, and Rabenick track bikes. There's a few stories that go with all those neat gem two wheel steeds. Where's that cold bottle of brut champagne and vanilla biscotti? Ted Ernst Palos Verdes Estates, CA
