I believe there's a circlip to each side of each bearing, so driving the spindle out of either side should push one bearing out as it goes. Putting things back together, the bearings should be pressed by their outer race untill flush with the bb.

When I get around to putting the new bearings in, I'm going to install a newer Real-brand spindle I have which has only one circlip groove in the center. This will reduce the chances of breakage at the circlip grooves, in theory. Setup involves adding the needed spacers to each side of the central circlip, tho I suppose one could center and secure a plain spindle using just pipe spacers between bearings and crankarms, later maybe securing the fit in the bearings with Loctite. I think that will be safest for this Viscount that sees about 1500 hilly training miles anually.

I bought one of those Stronglight bb's that has the tapered lockrings, but who knows who might have the needed tool for chamfering the bb shell for the tapered alloy lockrings. I first bought original-type bearings, then found this threadless bb at a swap meet. At the rate I'm going, neither of my Viscounts may ever get a new spindle, as the original bearings remain tight and smooth after about 30 years, but removing the spindle will likely destroy the driven bearing on it's way out.
