Ray, Please except my apologies I was only trying to be helpful. My definition of MODERN TYPE as you have typed it is post 1930. As I said in my brief posting Clement made this type of rear fork end with the derailleur hanger integral in 1951, I think this end was first introduced in 1949 but I have no documented evidence of this fact but definitely have for 1951. Campagnolo had this type of end on race trials in Italy in 1951 and they were certainly about in the peleton in 1952, first listed I am certain in their 1953 catalogue. Regarding Simplex and Nivex/Nimex (can never remember which?) these were about in the 1940's but I can't find a press cutting to verify. Like all things in life everything is a natural progression brazed on chainstay derailleur hangers such as Simplex & Cyclo to the incorporation on the read drop-out through development and racing. This is why Campag were using them in 51 on the pro racing scene and then later into production for the wider public. This was the same with their Rally rear mech 1972 and brakes a good two years before general sale. I hope that this information helps in your date requestor TIMELINE LESSON and now give you the knowledge that they were about a long time before you had previously thought. Best wishes Mick Butler just out for a 100 thats Km's Hunts UK --
