If you get a set of Zeus or Campy clamp-on shift levers, you can take the levers off and mount your nice Simplex retrofriction levers on the bosses.

Banana Brain has a few sets of NOS Zeus levers on eBay that would work for this.

NB: if you use Campy, you'll need the old Record/NR/SR type, as the Valentino/Gran Sport type won't have the proper mounting boss.
