Hey Gang, I normally limit myself to Italian bikes, even though I have purchased the obligatory Peugeot PX10 and a 70s Raleigh Gran Sport. Last month, I obtained a 70s Nishiki Professional and was so impressed with the craftsmanship and ride that when a bright red 77 Nishiki came up on Ebay, I decided to make the purchase. Some of you may have seen the listing.

The frame arrived today and it's really impressive in build quality, weight, and detail. No indication of the model or tubing, but it's definitely not in the realm of what I consider a Japanese bicycle. The frame is fully chromed underneath the paint and the finish is superb. I'm excited, I had not expected this level of quality from a Japanese marque. I'll be building it up this weekend, but those of you that maybe have ignored early high end Japanese bikes may be as surprised. Some of you old timers may know what I'm talking about.

I understand from the archives that Nishikis were imported by West Coast Cycles. I wonder why none ever made it to my local bike shop.
