Aldo and All: Jim Rossi is riding a German Rabeneick, made in Brackwede, a
city close to Bielefeld.
Ted Ernst is riding a Patria WKC, German bike made in Solingen, Germany.
Both were imported by my dad in our shop in Chicago.
In 1951 I went to Germany for amateur racing and worked at the Patria
factory. I stayed in the team rooms with the team manager and soigneur.
The professional bike teams used the quarters when they met before going off
to a race.
The two did part time factory work in between races and training the pros, I
worked a normal 40 hour week in the racing department, training and racing
for 9 months. That was a lot of fun and a great experience for a 19 year
old.
