The rifled steerer tube pre-dates SLX by about 25 years or more. SLX is simply the extension of that concept (rifling) to the seat and down tubes. My understanding is that concerns about the sudden popularity of brazed-on front derailleur mounts led Columbus to make the SL tubeset heavier / stronger by adding the internal helical ribs to those two tubes, just like they had already done to steerers for a very long time. An SLX tubeset is about 35 grams heavier than a corresponding SL set - not a huge weight penalty, for sure. Greg Parker Dexter, Michigan

Also, the steering tube is SLX, but not the blades.

I don't think SLX was widely available until late 1984/early 1985 but that combination of decals would be correct as SLX fork blades are identical to SL and as far as I know there were no SLX specific fork decals.
