Per Harvey's comments, I had a Phil disc on my 1978 Jack Taylor. They were pretty new at the time. It worked OK but rattled incessantly. I replaced the disc with a thicker one when they made that, and that helped. I never did strip out the splines but they definitely wore. My hub was the special 108 mm one designed to minimize dish, but it still had some dish. I only had a problem once, when I was riding it on a dirt road and the front wheel got into a deep rut. When I tried to ride it out of the rut, it caught and turned the wheel abruptly sideways, and folded it right over. The stem had spun in the steerer. I think any front wheel would have folded over at that point, so the dish was not the issue. But one good thing was, after bending it into as flat a shape as I could, I could still ride the bike, because I just diconnected the front Mafac and ran on disc alone. The wheel wobbled back and forth a bit but we rode the rest of the weekend on it without incident. When I got home, I unbuilt the wheel, flattened it out again, rebuilt it, and used it for several more years.
And speaking of Paramount tandems, I just bought a nice 1970 frame on eebay cheap and will restore it like new. But I also have one for sale. This is a 1975 or so T-22, double mens, 24 x 22 with a curved rear seat tube. Very cool but too big for me. All original to the point it still has Schwinn Le Tour tires. Asking $1200 complete. come and get it or pay me to box it up for you. It is black and has some nice yellow pinstriping that was probably done when new but certainly not factory. Excellent condition overall. Likely not ridden much. I have pics.
