just did a bit more research on this and the Olympic Games in 1956 were held between 23rd November and 1st December (according to the book Mr Tom) so Tom was not yet an Olympic medallist on the date below and he had his 19th birthday in Melbourne.

Tom was an Olympic medallist by this date so this guy must have been quick. Have had a quick look but haven't found anything yet. Hull Thursday RC is a thriving club, don't they have an Ellis Briggs trophy race? Try them most of our clubs have web sites.
