Only a carpenter/ finish carpenter would be bothered; a guy that does it for a living. Just like a frame builder. But those guys sometimes tell stories that might lead you to believe otherwise.

Just to clarify, a 2 x 4 is 1.5" x 3.5" and no one is particularly bothered by it, since that's the only way they come. Unfortunately, a 2 x 2 is 1.375" x 1.375", which is dumb, but there you have it. The entire building industry is designed around stud lumber that is those dimensions. (Used to be bigger-n-better, though, a long time ago). Now, back to on-topic vintage lightweights! Greg Parker sometime framer in Ann Arbor, Michigan
