I don't think Aende's Pongo ever lived in Kendal, which is in the Lake District and a long way (on our roads) from Nottingham. He was a great builder of racing bikes and I believe specialised in time trial machines. A local friend had him build a sloping top tube - towards the head tube - low profile frame before that design was standard. This guy also came up with a lightweight wheel design using Kevlar thread as spokes! The Kendal firm is most probably a local bike shop and one of many thousands of builders (or transfer appliers to other builders' efforts) that existed in this country when we were still an engineering and manufacturing country. (The good old days). Fortunately we still have some amazingly good frame builders who continue to supply 'proper' steel frames, or titanium, which is the only real alternative to my mind - aluminium alloy/carbon fibre?No way! Incidentally, the sloping top tube was very popular in the early 1900s, which is just another example of how little in the cycing world is really new.
