Hi All, A couple of questions, if I may?
- at what point does frame rust become a safety issue? Would light pitting on the top tube around the cable guides, and same around the seat cluster lugs compromise the safety of a frame? (upon inspection, the inside of the frame tubes appear to be quite free of rust)
- does anyone know anything about aluminum forks with the brand name Direct Drive? Are they strong and/or reliable, or should I toss them?
Today I purchased a Bianchi road bike for $50. It appears to be a mid-80's
Japanese-built bike, but it's too scratched and beat on to tell for sure.
The frame is straight, the bike is very, very lightweight, and the full
Shimano 600 component set is in good condition. Too bad someone left it in
the rain and generally treated it so poorly. I'm trying to decide whether to
strip it for parts, or rebuild and repaint it. It's age is probably outside
the timeline of this forum, but if anyone has some tips on the rust and
forks, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks!
