Nice site Stephan, I'll add it to the links page on the Velo-Retro site.

Looking through the site I noticed this statement that brought a bemused smile to my face: "Racing -- Gitane has arguably the greatest race history of any bicycle manufacturer. The brand has been ridden to wins in every major tour, including 11 wins in the Tour de France, numerous world and speed titles, and nearly every other major bicycle race. No other bicycle manufacturer can compare with Gitane’s legendary palmares."

You mention Gitan started winning in the 1960s when Jacques Anquetil rode Gitanes. Both Peugeot and Bianchi date back to the mid 1880s and would make Gitane's palmares look not so grand in comparison I would think. I do own a Gitane Super Corsa, along with Peugeots and Bianchis...
