Subject: [CR]AW: ebay outing: another nice Colnago, why do i part out bikes

Hello List, hello Charles,

i am the seller of these frames. Why do I part out bikes? Here is the simple reason:

I am in Germany. Here in this country, the collector-scene doesn't exist. Not in this size, knowledge and quality like in USA or Japan. The few persons from Germany, who have knowledge of Vintage racing bikes are list members. This German scene has to grow and learn. One example : I had a Derosa/Eddy Merckx. Offered from Eddy as sponsoring directly to a german pro rider. This bike is sold to a listmember. I had an offer from a person out of my town. He wants to pay 100 EUR/75 USD for the whole bike to ride it through the winter season. Should I do that?

The same should happen to this bike, offer from persons who want to use the bike and parts as winter training bike. Maybe tuned up with modern gear.

When I offered these bike complete, no one wants it. Now, everybody has the chance to get the part he is looking for. And he don't need to buy the whole bike for only one part of desire. Shipping a complete bike to USA or Japan is not cheap. Do You want the seatpost in this bike. Buy the whole bike, and pay 115,00 USD for shipping? I think this is the wrong way.

Most of the time, I offered complete bikes, interesting is great, but shipping costs are too high.

Snip :

The seller is parting out a bike, including this frame and fork, late 70s maybe. I've never seen a Colnago like this, but Europe saw models in the 70s that we never saw..

He's selling some nice parts that were once on the frame... seems too bad, but I'm guessing he'll make a lot more on the part-out than he would have selling the whole bike, given the size of the frame, if nothing else.

Next message:

Ouch. Referencing my previous post on the subject, *this* is the bike he parted out. Ouch. Too bad. Assembling all the panto'd bits for this one will be a headache. Would have been much nicer had he offered it as a complete bike. Good size too. Sad.
