Before the ride, the most fascinating bicycle was the Charles's new white Pogliaghi Tandem. Charles explained that Pog didn't like to build tandems because he would have to build it twice !! He would put together an entire tandem from oversized tubing, fillet brazed, and then cut it apart just to make lugs. And then he'd file the lugs and build it all over again !! Brian baylis remarked about the 0.75 inches bracing tube that we hadn't noticed and which nobody had seen before.
After the ride, the most fascinating bike was the Rene Herse ! Despite all the wet weather and puddles, when the ride stopped the full fenders on the herse (including chainguard) kept the bike looking like it had just been taken from the show room !! And this is despite having no mud flaps !! This was quite an accomplishment and showed that Herse must have done a great deal of experimentation to perfect the fenders on his bicycles.
