Basically, just lots of chain wrap capacity to better handle a large front difference..... Obviously, the design didn't take the world by storm...... ;-) Greg Parker Ann Arbor, Michigan P.S. Warren, it sounds like overkill for the drivetrain that you're using it on in your particular case.... You might want to consider replacing it with (the very sweet) standard short-cage Cyclone IMHO... Does anyone know what advantages SunTour claimed for this three-pulley design?

She agreed to the removal of its' STI RSX group and replacing with a 7 speed Suntour drivetrain. Sprint crank, Cyclone MKII derailleurs including an NOS 3 pulley model with pre-requisite bar-cons.

Shifts cleanly over a 12-23 ratio, as it should. A little noisier...the big cage needs to be kept perfectly aligned to the chainline. It would be interesting to see how it would shift an "alpine" range of gears. It does not have the spring action at the hanger that other gears have (Crane etc) but Suntour stuff always worked well.

The same model was also branded as an Arx and Lepree, as Pat noted.
