Tom; Just one ammendment to this is that if Hyman and his wife were referred to as Litvak as Mick indicates they would have been from Latvia which was absorbed into the Soviet Union in 1940, after a breif period of independence from Russia from 1918 through 1940. Three of my grandparent were from Latvia, and they never considered themselves Russian, although technically they were. They considered themselves Latvian Jews.
