Hello,
Dunlop did indeed make their own tubs. and I have a tin of their tub. cement
in the shed still! I can't remember them myself but my father reckoned they
never got them as good as continental makes. As I recall they got away from
bicycle tyres after an argument with Raleigh.
Constrictor also made tubs. both the Constrictor design which did not need
gluing to the rim, but lost it's grip after a puncture, and where the bottom
could be opened for repairs, and conventional stitched types (known as Asps) with
a base tape, some with a violet rubber tread, also wired ons, they were
claiming to make a silk H.P. as good as tubs in 1936. They would also make a tyre
in any wheel diameter to order. They had the alloy for the Conloy rims "spewed"
(their word) specially but did not make the Wooden (Maple) rims themselves,
they were produced by the Franco American Rim Co, with another firm making
cheaper (Beech) rims. Must get this Constrictor catalogue scanned!
