Fréchaut Est Tombé

Tour de France, 1937, either stage 14a, 14b, or 14c... yes, there were three stages that day - a 99km road race from Perpignan to Bourg-Madame, a 59km mountain stage from Bourg Madame to Ax-les-Thermes, and a 167km mountain stage from Ax-les-Thermes to Luchon. Here French "individuel" Jean Fréchaut has fallen, and spectators in their traditional black Pyrenean bérets have released him from the pedals and are helping him up. Note the "Brownie" camera on the ground, the Super Champion derailleur. This is one of the standard "l'Auto" bikes from the years when all bikes were identical. From "Le Miroir des Sports" No.958, 20 July 1937.
