I have what could be a radical idea and may get me laughed or flamed off
the list, but, here goes....
I propose that folks selling to the list have a reasonal waiting period
of a few hours, maybe 8 or 12, so as to give those of us who get the list in digest form a fair crack at the goodies.
For example, the Zeus shoes that Tom Hayes offered to list were gone in 15 minutes.
Not all of us are waiting by the computer. +++++++ As a "digester" I have sometimes felt the same as Jay (as though I need m ore of this stuff?). As a seller, I've several times announced something like, "Will do random draw from all responses received 24 hr. after dige st is received." I had one or two complaints, but people generally thou ght that a random draw was fair. I may do something more "unfair" (in th e eyes of some) if I post items for sale again, with a statement like, "I reserve the right to prioritize in favor of those who have been construc tive contibutors to the ClassicRendevous list." When I sell stuff throug h the list that I've collected over the years, its not generally about ge tting the most bucks - for that eBay makes more sense. It matters to me t hat it go to people who will use it rather than perhaps flip it. Here's w hy I've gotten to this point: I posted a FS for a 1950s Motobecane town b ike, w/o conditions. The first responder is a highly respected CR member , and that really pleased me. Someone who understands what I meant by "pa tina," and what to expect from that kind of bike at the price offered. S ince I'm giving away maximum financial returns, I will take psychic payme nt in the form of pleasure that it is going to a good home. I often repla y to WTB requests, since these always (?) are for parts for a particular bike, and that seems to be a Good Thing.
But, that's just my choice in the vast market of obsolete "stuff" and ide as.*
harvey sachs mcLean va *yup, leaving it ambiguous about whether the ideas are obsolete. :-)
