Subject: [CR]New to the list

Hi, I am new to this list, but have been around cycling since the early 1970's in College Park, Md. I have owned a lot of classic steel bikes over the years, starting with a 1973 Motobecane Grand Jubile, and progressing through a sampling of Reynolds 531 and Columbus lugged bikes into the mid '80s. I still own two. My number one road bike is a frame that was custom built for me in 1982 by David Brink of Berkeley, Calif. I equipped it with the best available parts of the day (Phil Wood BB, Specialized sealed headset and triple crankset, Campagnolo derailleurs, brakes and hubs and Mavic retrofriction shifters, and it remains mostly complete. Every time I ride it or work on it, it reminds me why I love bicycles. In 1995, I found a badly painted but otherwise good condition 1971 Peugeot PX-10 frame in the basement of American Cycles in San Francisco (thanks, Gene). I made it my fixed gear bike for almost a decade, and I'm currently building it as a second road bike, with a mixture of vintage Campagnolo and Simplex parts. I believe that bikes of this vintage can and should be ridden, thus I get grumpy about things like $2,750 dropouts, no matter how rare. I have a request of anybody who has read this far. The last piece I need to complete the Peugeot is a cable guide for the bb area, either a Delrin Simplex guide like came on the original, or a Campagnnolo. It's not really critical; the bike is not meant to be a correct restoration, but a rider. Thanks, Earle Young, Madison, Wisc.
