Hi Mike,
I documented all the frames that came through Ed's shop, in the unpainted
state. One thing to look at is the style of lug, and if the little cut out is a
diamond or a triangle. The diamond cut out frames are the latest ones I've
seen, being set up for short reach brakes with recessed fasteners. My own frame
has the triangle cut outs and is set for standard reach brakes with recessed
fasteners. It is my opinion that, as these are Cinelli built frames and that
Cinelli was an early adopter of "cutting edge" parts, these may be dated (at the
earliest) by when the detail parts were first available. My best guess on mine
is 1974 to 1976, making Bob's roughly 1977, or close to whenever short reach
brakes were first available to the early adopters in Europe. I'm obviously open
to any accurate information as to when these changes in parts were made.
