I've used the Campy bar ends with a pretty wide range 7 speed freewheel and there is still some room left for the lever to go.

A sedis chain worked great on my old Suntour freewheels, but a newer Sach's freewheel seemed to have tighter spacing and one cog, 2nd from largest, seemed to hover a bit with the chain, not sure why. I built up another Suntour and the problem went away. That's a Campy barend with a Huret Duopar rear mech. I wish I could find a source for Suntour cogs, I'd like another freewheel. Anyone? 13, 14, 17, 21, 26, 32 (half step)?

Well, the re: line says it all.

I have a pair of campy bar end shifters on Ebay (Item number: 7143262041) and I've been asked how many rear sprockets they can handle... I must admit never having used them on more than five. Will they handle a six-speed freewheel? Seven?
