I don't know David, nor have I ever corresponded with him directly but I can somewhat relate to his situation, although I diagree with him on one point. What can you do when you have no idea what something is worth? Take for example the six arm colnago mexico cranks I recently offered for sale to the list. I do not own a colnago, I've never ridden colnago (yes it's sad I know), and I know next to nothing about colnago. I search the internet for a clue to their value, I searched the CR archives and all I got were references to an ebay auction over a year ago with no mention of their final sale price and with the auction having taken place so long ago there was no way to look it up on ebay itself. I admit it was awkward but I offered them up to the list for sale or trade with the plea for help determining their value. This is where I can relate to david, but when I found the cranks my first thought was, "Wow, I bet someone on the list would love these and appreciate them." I knew I had no use for them, even though for a second I contemplated putting them on some random frame. I could have thrown them up on ebay but I didn't. I don't want to say I feel obligated, I think I'm just grateful to the list for all of the times you guys have answered my dumb questions. I think it's one thing to ask the list for a value judgement on an item if you intend to keep it. I think it is in poor taste to ask the list for a value and state you are going to sell said item, without offering it to the list first. I know I don't post very often, so I hope no one feels I shouldn't be commenting on this situation.
with my best regards,
