Blue Loctite allows removal of the parts with ordinary hand tools (no heat needed). It's a good solution in this case (and lots of others) IMO. Cheers, Greg Parker Dexter, Michigan, 'murrica

I'm chiming in with 2 cents worth of background on Locktite: All the Lockti te colors/flavors will function as an anti-seize since the function of anti seize is to prevent oxygen (and oxygen-bearing moisture) from entering a jo int (threaded or not) and setting up galvanic welding between dissimilar me tals. As noted: Blue locktite is medium strength and removable with ordinar y hand tools, Red requires heat and sometimes extraordinary effort. But wha t you want for a press-fit joint (such as a tapered crank spindle) is Green
locktite and it also comes in different strengths, though the medium stren gth green is the most common. Make sure you read the label and buy the righ t strength for the job at hand. All these anaerobic adhesives need CLEAN su rfaces to work effectively and they may require priming with Locktite solve nt on certain metals, notably stainless steel, as well as others in order t o cure. Check their website for more info. None of them will substitute for
missing threads or will replace threads, but a Helicoil will...and Helicoi l does NOT want you to use any adhesives when you install their threaded in serts, they rely on spring tension to stay in place. But I've cheated and h ad no ill results. Alan Goldsworthy San Francisco, CA
