The Campy record is an excellent front triple derailleur, but just won't handle the extremes of a crankset with a 28x52 front crank. It may work, but unless the rear was a pretty close ratio setup, it might not get more than 2 or 3 of the rear gears while in the granny and you might not get the big x big setup either. I know we're not supposed to cross chain, but I gotta have the option!

Although it is not widely known, a Campy NR front will often handle triples very nicely. I have one on the Assenmacher touring bike with Ofmega triple I bought from Tom Sanders, and it shifts the triple with no problems.

Model 99 is a "low-Q" crankset with minimal clearance between the crank
arm and chainring. So does anyone here have a good recommendation for a
front derailleur. The ringset is 52-40-28.
