I raced on a Gitane track frame at Alpenrose during the 80-81 seasons. I bought it as a use frame and I'm sure it was at least mid-70's vintage, possibly earlier. I don't recall the tubing brand, but I do recall that it had seamed tubing, round fork blades and stamped fork ends/dropouts. Certainly not Reynolds, probably not even Vitus.
As for terminology, wheelsucking (or sucker), sew-ups, fixed-gear, skip-tooth and David Auker were all part of our racing vocabulary here in Oregon during the mid-70's and 80's. I don't use the terms "fixie" or "tubie" and seldom say "tubular" when referring to a tire, but I don't hold it against anyone who does.
