I have not read that article but I have been presented with 5 fake Postal Money Orders. As a Postal Clerk I was immediately aware that these were fake. Each one was in the amount of $1000.00. The most obvious difference was the perforation tear at the top. A Postal Money Order has a very fine perforation. These were coarse. The dollar value was not printed on the money order with the carbon type ink the Postal Service uses but rather printed on as though it was printed the same time as the money order.
The customers that brought them in were victims of Internet fraud. They were promised half of the value for cashing them. The money order was mailed to the victim with the understanding that after they were cashed the sender would be mailed 1/2 of the cash value.
If you receive money orders in the amount of $1000.00 please take them along with the envelope they came in and any documentation (email copies etc) to your local Post Office. Do NOT send any merchandise until you have verified that you do indeed have genuine Postal Money Orders.
