SS and/or alloy fenders hold up pretty well- they are much more rigid
than plastic ones and if you add another set of stays it will further
increase the rigidity of them. If you run into a car of course the
fenders will be dented- along with the rest of the bike- but by and
large they deflect most of the dings and toe clip catches you may
experience.
And they look much cooler than plastic fenders.

It isn't a classic but I used up some old parts when I cobbled myself a
new frame down in the basement ..

The black fenders and plastic toeclips have to go (I have gum Diacompe
hoods ordered to replace the black shimano hoods) I have some black
planet bike fenders on the bike but stainless steel would look better,
My question is how easily damaged are the SS Berthoud fenders?
Also, where can I find some extra large stainless steel toe clips(
besides ebay)?
