Howard Sutherland prefaces his exhaustive Manual for Bicycle Mechanics thusly: "One measurement is worth a thousand expert opinions."
Your local bike shop should have a seat post sizer, which is a tool that has a series of cylinders, each .2 mm larger than the next, that will show you exactly what size you need.
