I'd just like to add to this discussion of BB height. From the
perspective of a racer, I never heard (at least in the 70's) anyone
speaking of drop. It was always BB height. This dimension was always
spoken about in the context of cornering. And, not necessarily just on
the track. We were, in those days, mostly riding crits and the issue
was, of course, cornering. As you all know, 170 mm cranks were the norm
then, and the issue was could you pedal through the turn. Of course, we
should have been keeping our inside crank up, but many a rider flipped
into the air when an inside pedal hit the pavement. So, we were always
asking how high is the BB. As I see from this discussion, probably this
was the wrong question but, nevertheless, it was the one we asked.
