THE CUSTOM BICYCLE ------

i recently passed on a copy of this book being sold by the local library for 25cents. didn't know what it was, didn't really look inside because i judged the book by it's cover. i know, not the best thing to do but it was done. now i see what it's going for on ebay and it makes me wonder what did i pass up?

being a vintage riding newbie, many of the bikes talked about were built before i was born or at least even knew how to ride and having only started to ride past the CR cut-off date. i'm wondering if there is a list of books to look for to help learn more about these bikes.

reading hilary's description, i would have found it worth picking up this book. not all was lost on my trip to the sale. i did pick up a copy of "The Complete Book of Bicycling" by Eugene Sloane. it looked "old" that's why it caught my attention. it was printed in 1970 and has some cool pics of racing, how to work on parts of the day, specs for certain parts and a listing of bikes and what to expect on them(down to the spokes) and how much for the discerning buyer. i see a cinelli sold for $255, only $10 more then the paramount p-13.

anyway, you get the point. what are some books to look out for at these kinds of sales that would help increase my knowledge about some of these bikes and builders? i'm not interested in selling the book but for my interest in learning more.

thanks

Eric Acuna Santa Rosa, CA

btw, i also picked up a copy of "Bicycle Frames" by Joe Kossack, 1975.
