"I have no big axe to grind in terms of clipless vs. old style- clipless obviously offers many advantages. I just like clips + straps and I don't consider myself a masochist, nor do I live blindly in the past for it's own sake "
Oh, Wesley you are being too reasonable, man! OK, I'll just say: I hate these darned "Look" pedals or whatever they are called. And the hooker shoes that go with them. The ones that are metallic lime green with the goofy velcro straps. Eeeccch.. They are part and parcel of carbonfibre, spandex and index gearing. Double eecccch. But the worse thing has to be putting them on classic lightweights. How can people do that? Like putting mag wheels on an 1964 Alfa Romeo Spider. YUCK! Classic is classic... buy the Detto Pietro leather shoes with the little holes and wear wool. You know it's right. Just do it.
By the way, imagine my surprise and delight on the WO&D cyclepath here in Washington to be riding my '69 PX-10 last Sunday and pass another beautifully restored similar vintage PX-10 in the other direction! Of course we're talking PX-10s here so going way too fast to catch if the rider was wearing the right shoes.... one can but hope.
