These things were made based on the sincere belief of the manufacturer that an absolutely rigid shell was not an ideal bicycle helmet; at the time of the company's demise I was told that they were looking into having a realistically deformable head replica made for R&D purposes. A friend of mine did suffer injuries in a fall with one--not because of any deficiency of the helmet's main structure, but because she slid and abraded the wiring-tie strap fastener through and the helmet came off!
