i.m.o. people are best convinced when they participate in their own research, and there is a LOT more history-related stuff in the e-mail list's archives, as well as links, and actual web sites (in addition to CR) than ANY bored overweight lifelong bikey will ever type in our e-mail forum. I find the best posts here to often be mainly personal-experience based, whom among us was watching when simpson overheated on the ventoux on a peugo-masi? The historians have that captured all over the web (in addition to our list archives) where's the beef about pointing in those directions for info? Its real cool to to read mail from members with knowledge and experience about french bikes, or fancy bikes built for pros, but its also nice to be reminded of other resources that I can use on my OWN dime without pestering 1200 folks with it...fully knowing I could get nasty notes from some hot-mail reader, I still think this needs to be said

Peter the following is not directed at you, they are observations of mine after being on the list since its inception...

I'm not suggesting that it's all been covered, it's in the archives, shut down the list. What I am saying is that the archives are under utilized based on the types of questions asked day in and day out on the list. And I'm also saying that asking questions without checking the archives is actually taking the easy way out. Knowing that there is a high probability that the question has already been asked and that the answer is in the archives but it's too much trouble to actually look it up is the equivalent of asking someone else to do your homework for you to my way of thinking.

What I love to see is when someone posts, "I've checked the archives and can't find the answer so could someone tell me why bla, bla, bla..."

What I would love to see is someone finding multiple answers to their question in the archives and building on that with new information.

What makes me feel like putting a gun to my head is when someone posts... well... you all probably know the answer to that one already.
