Thanks Frank (or is it Mike...your email address said Michael Gould?)

Actually, it is good news, in that it moves me further down the path towards identifying the bike. I had initially thought it was a Claud Butler, as that was my recollection of what it was when I used to ride it back in the 1960's when it was first given to me. Since then I outgrew it and it passed through a variety of my siblings, and along the way was repainted several times and lost its nameplate. I retrieved it about a year ago (all that remained was frame, seatpost and handlebars) and since then have been racking my brain trying to remember what make it was. The frame size is very small in height but not in length, so I've realized I can ride it again by sticking in a 400mm seatpost and a long stem for the bars. The bike has a lot of sentimental value for me, it was built for Harold Smith of the Severn Road Club; he was a great family friend and gave me the bike after he'd given up riding in the 1960's.

I'd wondered if perhaps it was a CB Mass Start model; although all the pictures I've been able to find of them have a separate seatpost clamp, not one built into the frame as mine has.

Anyway, thanks so much for your insight into this...being told I'm going down the wrong path is equally valuable as being shown the right one.

best wishes -Michael Davies
