In between working on our new powder room and running to Home Depot this past weekend, I popped into a local bike swap meet. Mostly balloon tire stuff although I picked up some NOS "AFA" toe straps and a NOS Sturmey Archer 18 tooth and a TDC 20 tooth freewheel for my Ernie Clements. There was a 1920/30's CCM track frame for $75 CDN., I don't think it sold.
On the way home from Home Depot I stopped buy a local bike co-op to see what was up. Well....way up, in the rafters was an early Cinelli!! I picked it up today for a fair price, $150 US.,for frame and fork.
Now comes the hard part! Let's play, "date the frame".
-It has chrome lugs and seat stay cluster without the holes.
-It has NO oiling holes on the top or bottom of the BB, and at this time it does not look like they have been filled.
-It has campy dropouts with NO fender eyelets.
-It has water bottle bosses (brass nuts) that appear to be added later.
-It has had a rear derailleur hanger added to the dropout.
-The rear spacing is 120mm
-The BB is 70mm
-The Serial# is 6160, which is two away from Jan Heine #6162 down the road in Seattle. There are also #6089 and #6152 in Seattle.
-Jan thinks his bike dates around mid 60's, while the others in Seattle and #6039 in the UK date their's at mid 50's. #6039 does not have a rear der. hanger.
-Every thing makes me lean towards it being an "SC" except that my bike has a flat crown.
What do you think??
When I was leaving the shop I spotted a tubular wheel, also up in the rafters. It is a NOS oval red label Fiamme with a NOS Campy Record high flange hub. $10! What a good day!
