Further to the subject of British time trialing 72" medium gear events
riding fixed gear. I must add one more name ,that of the well known Tony
Doyle who did a 59-19 mins in February 1977. He later turned
proffessional and became World 4000 and 5000 metre champion the same
year, his sucess continued well into 1986 with silvers and bronze to go
with his gold. He then became famous for his years as a leading six day
rider until his retirement.
Others at the time under the hour at the 72" gear events were Ken
Craven,Dave Bonner and Mick Bowen to mention a few. All this brings back
the memories of the days when so many of us could'nt afford to buy any
type of gearing. One good thing came out of fix gear riding it at least
taught riders how to pedal a bike.
Happy twiddling
