This review is a bit late, but what the hell. A great time was had by all at the recent BVVW meeting. It was nice to meet CR listers Lou Deeter, and Matteo Brondi in person. Matteo helped out Pergolizzi when his Italian faltered (not often). There were some great presentations at the meeting, especially Eddie Albert's collection of road signs from such races as Gent Wevelgem, Baston Leige and other Belgium classics. Is it legal to take those signs, Eddie?? Hopefully the sign police don't read the CR list. Ray Hominsi showed some booklets published by the League of American Wheelman in the 1890s. They present evidence that the LAW was a significant force in getting Manhattan Island paved. It seems cyclist wanted smooth roads to ride on. A map in an 1889 LAW publication showed that only about 25-30% of Manhattan was paved, mostly on the lower East side, a center of the immigrant population.
