Like the feel of the rubber they use [though cant explain why]. Mine say A'ME (not L'AME) on them. Adding more than the 2 cents these deserve: as I recall A'MEs big inovation was to make these hoods (all styles) out of either PVC (that's vinyl) or Kraton synthetic rubber. Either substance was cheaper than the natural gum rubber that Campy and Modolo were using, so these knock-offs could be sold for $5 a pair AND made in all the "hip" 80s colors that never even occured to the Italians! In case you all take Garth's bait and revisit the "Campy World Logo Gum Hood" thread of death...I suggest it would have to follow the horrid WalMart model (shudder) and be sourced from China, and be made from the cheapest material: PVC with modifiers...sorry, but that's reality for mfg. goods in the 21st century. A home-based caster could produce a handful of hoods as a labor of love for himself and a tiny market of enthusiasts, but I would not predict any profit in that cottage industry.Still, it's because we love these old bikes that we labor...right?
