When I worked at a shop in the late '70s the cool thing was to take a Cyclo, throw away the bolt/pin and replace it with the bolt/pin from a VAR. The thought was that the Cyclo bolt/pin was not so great; the pin always seemed to get loose, and the VAR body did not have that extra shelf for loosening a tight link. This way you got the best of both.
The threads didn't fit perfectly, but the steel on the VAR was so hard that it cut its own channel. I still have mine.
