With all this talk about Peugeots I am slowly starting to develop an appetite for them again. I owned one low ender from 1971 and rode one mid range one from the early to mid eighties. It was too long ago to evaluate the frame handling and responsiveness for the earlier model, but from what I remember of the early eighties one, the bike was quite neutral, but with componentry quite blah. I loved the old PX-10 when they were in their hayday but never got a chance to ride one. If the ride was anything like the distinctive look that they had, then I know I have missed out on an experience. I think the complaint that the details of the lugwork were less than the highest standard has validity for a museum piece but perhaps very little as an everyday rider or racer. The PX-10 that I remember best was one owned by my friend Mr. Mahron of Queens N.Y. He had a lovely white one in an extra large size. On one trip that we went on he was up for much of the night before replacing the Simplex rear dr with a Campy. He cursed all during our ride because I imagine it was not set up correctly. I wish I could have been there then with what I know now. I could have saved him a lot of anguish with a proper set of adjustments.
The reason I don't own a PX-10 is because parts are difficult to locate for reasonable prices, and fear that I don't know enough about them to make a wise purchase. Still though, a lovely white one with all the decals would be a treat, I am sure.
