One in one respect: number of TdFs won. Merckx still won more yellow
jerseys (about 110, IIRC), vs Lance's 83. And Merckx won in many more
venues than the TdF as well.

I don't know that he cheated, but I do think he decided to specialize in the TdF at the expense of other venues, and this year in particular was very calculating in the manner in which he raced, taking no more risk than was absolutely necessary to maintain his lead.
