"Mike Mulholland Marcel Mulholland has just informed us that his father Mike Mulholland passed away during the night. Mike was involved in the Canadian bicycle scene for over 25 years, and began racing long before that in his native England, beginning in 1953. After moving to Canada he continued with the sport, and opened Cyclops Bicycles, after purchasing equipment from Jocelyn Lovell. At Cyclops, Mike specialized in custom steel frames for road, track and cyclo-cross. He sponsored numerous riders, and his bicycles could be found all across North America. Mike also coached many riders, and was always available for advice. While he worked primarily with steel, Mike was constantly keeping up with the latest advances, and whenever I would see him, the conversation invariably turned to bicycles, and new designs that he was working on. Our condolences to his family. Marcel has informed us that there will probably be a celebration of Mike's life in the next few days, and will let us know the details as soon as possible. Please post your memories and thoughts of Mike in the Forums. "

I received this sad news this morning and thought I would post it to this list in that I am sure there are others who knew Mike. In the 1970's I lived in Toronto and started racing there. I joined a typical English racing club called Scarborough CC. Much different than most of todays when racing is the only thing, and the devil take the hindmost.
This was a family club where everyone was welcome. Lots of kids racing in midget classes, girls, wives and husbands of racers turning out to cheer on the time trial ever Wednesday night or the handicap club races on the weekends. Anyway, it was my introduction to 25 years of racing.
Mike Mullholland was the President of that club and welcomed this ignorant American with open arms. I remember one Wednesday night TT...the only one I ever won. There were really no prizes so Mike gave me a key chain from the electric company he worked for at the time. I still have it!
At the Cirque this year there were at least 6 or six guys who had come through that club. Mike, RIP. Edward Albert Chappaqua, NY
