Don't know if this totally answers your question, but one framebuilder/restorer I deal with a lot recommends Minwax Clear Gloss Polyurethane spray, if you want to put just a local clearcoat over otherwise unprotected decals, such as when you've replaced decals without repainting or completely clearcoating the frame.

The frame has no clearcoat , is almost a matt finish, and has a very satisfying crazing of the paint and decals. What is the best way to protect this kind of paint/finish? Are there any special precautions I should take in cleaning the frame? Everything I've dealt with previously has been a gloss Imron type of paint.
