Hi CR folks,

I nearly blew my top on this on - some CR folks being critical of another CR member for alerting an ebayer that an item they have might be under-represented.

Well you can't have it both ways. I saw the post that it was ambiguous whether the Bobet had the elusive very first generation NR rear. The seller seemed to be uncertain. Now, I know the seller of the bike so I alerted him to the confusion and he immediately responded that the deraillieur was not the super rare model. This effectively shot down his chance of some crazy high bids by someone taking a chance that it might be the rare one. He wanted folks to be perfectly aware of what they were getting so that all would be fair.

Then I see folks being critical of Mark Bulgier for trying to out the rare item. Well frankly I appreciate Mark trying to be sure that a potentially rare item gets discovered so that my friend (someone who has been at the past two Cirques and who has been really helpful with some of the Marque displays there) would get a fair price for what he had. Myself and my friend made sure bidders weren't misled, yet some folks were upset that a potential lucky score might have been shot down.

The bottom line is that an auction works better if people know what they are bidding on. While it is a stretch to say that one should alert others to a possible bargain (at ones own expense), I think it is mightly unfair to be critical of those who do.

And by the way, that Bobet is is a really nice machine.

Yes I do have a connection to the seller, he is a very good friend of mine.
